Oreti River House is located in the country town of Lumsden on the South Island of New Zealand. Lumsden is a short drive ( less than 1 hour) from two Airports- Queenstown and Invercargill. Both Airports have International and Domestic flights and vehicle hire services. The drive to Lumsden is scenic and fairly straightforward. In particular the drive from Queenstown Airport is especially picturesque as it travels along the edges of Lake Wakatipu before continuing through wide, green glacial plains spotted with sheep and deer, surrounded by towering mountains. The trip will cross the upper Mataura River which will give your first view of this 'gin clear' waterway. Its upper section shows regular pools, ripples and water flowing over colorful glacial pebbles. Nearer to Lumsden you will travel along the edges of the middle section of the Oreti River- showing its braided river bed, deep pools, shadowy undercuts and long ripples. The drive will show many aspects of the magnificent scenery that makes up this beautiful part of New Zealand.
Oreti River House is located adjacent to Rod and Wheel House in Lumsden. The two houses can be booked together or separately. They both have fences, hedges and large gardens. Oreti River House has a larger established garden on a double section of land. Rod and Wheel has a recently landscaped garden on a single section of land. Both houses are self contained and private and offer very comfortable accommodation.
